Ovulation Induction

Ovulation induction is a form of treatment aimed at stimulating the eggs in the expectant mother with the help of specially used drugs and increasing the probability of successful pregnancy by increasing the number of eggs. A healthy woman produces one egg per month. The main purpose of this treatment is to obtain the best quality embryo and to maximize the chance of pregnancy.

This treatment is a process in which some hormonal drugs are used in order to ensure the production of eggs and accelerate the release of eggs in expectant mothers who do not conceive. A woman's menstrual cycle occurs on average once every 28 days. Between 21-35 days is considered normal for the menstrual cycle. If fertilization does not occur within this period, the mature egg is disintegrated in the body along with other tissues and is expelled from the uterus with menstrual bleeding.

A woman is considered to have an irregular menstrual cycle when the ovulation period is less than once every 35 days. In cases where the menstrual cycle cannot be followed in women, ovulation problems occur. In this case, the use of eggs does not occur. This adversely affects pregnancy success.

The natural method in women with egg induction is to increase the success of pregnancy with vaccination or different fertility treatments.

How is ovulation induction done?

When ovulation problems are seen in women, some examinations and tests are applied to determine the underlying cause. Many examination procedures are done, such as blood tests, egg and uterine ultrasound scanning. In this process, it is also checked whether the eggs respond to drug treatment.

By using the egg induction method, the eggs are stimulated and the egg matures and is released from the ovaries. In this process, when the eggs reach a certain size, a cracking needle is applied.

After the cracking needle passes, there is a suggestion for sexual intercourse between 35-40 hours. If a procedure is to be performed in a laboratory environment other than sexual intercourse, egg collection procedures are performed by vaccination, in vitro fertilization or microinjection. This method is an application that increases the success rate of IVF treatment in women with irregular menstrual cycles.

Who is ovulation induction suitable for?
What is Ovulation Induction?

For this treatment, the diagnosis in the expectant mother is usually important. If a woman has an early menopause or is overweight, this procedure may not be possible.

  • Ovulation induction is suitable for:
  • It can be applied in cases where there is no egg development or the egg is not released.
  • Diagnosis of polycystic ovary
  • In cases of hypothalamic dysfunction due to disturbances in the hormones secreted by the hypothalamus
  • Occurrence of egg production in women much earlier than during menopause
  • High prolactin serum
  • thyroid disorders
  • Hormone therapy can be applied in situations that will indirectly affect ovulation, such as stressful life, exercise, obesity and eating disorders.
  • This treatment can be applied in assisted reproductive methods such as vaccination and in vitro fertilization.

Whether ovulation induction is necessary or not is determined by the doctor after the examination. After the couples are informed about this, treatment can be started.

When is ovulation follow-up in ovulation induction?

In order for the ovulation process to be successful in ovulation induction in women, the ovulation process should be followed regularly by the doctor. Especially in ovulation induction treatments applied for infertility, this treatment is started on the second and fifth day of the menstrual period.

In this treatment, how the follow-up process will be done and how the process will be carried out vary according to the drug to be used during the treatment and the procedure to be applied. Doctors inform couples about ovulation tracking.

If ovulation is followed perfectly during the procedure, healthy ovulation can be performed in the expectant mother, and thus, couples can have children with various treatments. This treatment increases the success rate in alternative methods such as IVF.

Which drugs are used for ovulation induction?

Different drugs can be used during the ovulation induction process. The main focus in this process is to ensure successful ovulation in the expectant mother, to regulate ovulation and to increase the probability of pregnancy to the highest level by increasing the number of eggs.

The drugs used in this process are administered in different doses and combinations. In addition, as with the dosage of each drug, the duration of administration will also differ. All of the drugs with ovulation-stimulating properties are hormonal. These drugs can be in tablet form or in injection form.

The drugs used in ovulation induction are generally as follows;

Human menopausal ganadotropin
This drug consists of follicle stimulating and leutinizing hormone. The method of administration of this drug is by injecting. In general, it is applied to stimulate egg development in women who do not have the ability to ovulate or have an extremely irregular ovulation cycle. This process is suitable for use in both vaccination treatment and IVF procedure. It provides an increase in the number of eggs in one cycle in women with the ability to ovulate.

Follicle stimulating drugs
FSH drugs are injected in order to get a large number of eggs in the ovulation induction cycle and stimulate egg development. These drugs can be applied alone or in combination with menopausal ganadotropin. In order to see the reaction of the eggs in all cycles, the process is followed by ultrasound examination and measurement of estrogen in the blood.

Human karyonic conadotroin
These drugs are known as hCG drugs. These drugs are effective in the maturation of the eggs. It is also a natural hormone that has the task of triggering the ovaries to release the eggs after they mature.

It can be used to manage the implantation process of a fertilized egg. Ovulation occurs when 36 hours have passed after hCG.

Lupron and Synthetic gonadotropin inhibitor
The main task of lupron is to suppress the secretion of leutinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone in the brain. These drugs are applied in the process of preparing treatment cycles together with FSH drugs. It inhibits the release of a dominant follicle for the later menstrual cycle and acts to improve follicle retrieval in women.
